Thomas Velasquez
Director and Author
Thomas Aquinas Velasquez is a linguistic scholar who taught Reading and Language Arts for over 20 years at City College of San Francisco in California.  Thomas earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in English and an M.A. in Language Arts from San Francisco State University.  In his work for the City College of San Francisco, he taught English to bilingual students from widely diverse back-grounds, led  Staff Develop-ment Sessions,  and served as Director of an initiative to include more African-American students in the educational system.  
Ruth Velasquez
Director and Author
Ruth Lind Velasquez, an experienced and recognized educational leader in California,  taught grades from kindergarten through high-school for over forty years. She was a Professional and Curriculum Development Specialist with teachers in San Francisco Unified School District.  Her extensive experience has  contributed to her development of creative curriculum lessons and activities  for First Stage publications.  She has a B.A. in Liberal Arts and an M.A. in Education Administration and Supervision from San Fran-cisco State University.

Founded in 1975 by Thomas and Ruth Velasquez, First Stage Publishing Company provides teachers, educators, administrators and families with the tools to cultivate students who are successful, well-rounded, confident and excited.  Professional educators with 65 years of combined experience, the Velasquezes have worked in close alliance with other educational organizations such as the California Kindergarten Association (CKA), the National Kindergarten Alliance (NKA)Delta Phi Upsilon (DPU) , ART Teaches, the International Reading Association, the National Education Association, and the Latin American Teacher’s Association.

Zelda LeFrak

Zelda LeFrak has a B.A. in Elementary Education and an M.A. in Curriculum Design with an emphasis in Children's Literature. She served as chair of Professional Development Workshops for  CKA and has traveled across the United States presenting workshops that tie art to experiences that enrich and extend the core curriculum.

A graduate of San Jose State University who taught Kinder-garten in the California public schools, Pat Rees-Miller is a founding board member of the nonprofit CKA. She has also represented CKA as a founding member of NKA.  She has co-ordinated more than twenty statewide California Young Children's Art Exhibits.
